Rabbits are preferred to investigate the ocular disease related mechanism.Rats and mice are recently used to develop ocular model. Laboratory mice often have a 2 year life span and develop the disease early compared to humans. Hence testing a new treatment in mice is always easier. Rats on the other hand are preferred to study optic nerve related injuries.
