Cellular Models (Ocular/Cancer/CV/Skin/Bone/Metabolic Disease)

Ocular: Ocular tissues regulate the environment in the anterior and posterior part of the eye, essential for normal visual function. They also effectively control shuttling of administered drugs; therefore effective drug delivery and targeting. We subscribe animal based experiments--rabbits, pigs, dogs, cats, mice, rats and monkeys which are crucial for pharmacological and toxicological studies while cell culture models are relevant to mechanistic investigations.

Cancer: Cancer presents some of the most challenging problems for basic scientists, clinical investigators, and practitioners. In order to design treatments that are capable of specifically targeting the invasive cancer cells that drive malignant tumor growth, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms, by which these cells initiate angiogenesis, enhance their motility, relax adhesive cellular bonds and penetrate normal tissue.

There are a variety of models to study cancer and its associative mechanism. One can choose from cancer cell lines to genetically modified mice. Yeast has added much to our knowledge of the cell cycle and the maintenance of cell polarity. Human cancer cell lines are routinely used as experimental models for human cancers. Their validity is analyzed with particular focus on thyroid tumors. Although cell lines retain some properties of the cells of origin they show clear differences in these properties compared to In-vivo tumors.

Due to the inherent complexity of the many interconnected physiological processes involved in tumor initiation, new blood vessel formation, and cell invasion, conventional experimental approaches alone are often unable to penetrate to the core of these issues. Alongside multi-scaled pathophysiology is becoming ever so important for cancer research to make use of cross-disciplinary themes, systems science approaches, in which innovative computational cancer models play a central role.

At Aaranya Biosciences Private Limited our research objective is to develop a comprehensive and predictive framework combining mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and carefully designed experiments for better understanding tumor development and for improving cancer treatment.

Skin: Reconstructed human skin has become increasingly important during the last years in different fields. They are used for substance testing in the regulatory context of the cosmetics. Reconstructed epidermis replaces animal testing for skin corrosion and skin irritation testing.

Our skin models are now an established research tool for the cosmetics & pharmaceutical industry. In brief, our Skin Model is a multilayered equivalent of the human skin. It consists of keratinocytes and fibroblasts derived from the same human donor. Skin research models cover the entire range of human skin cell culture. Starting with a monolayer culture of single cells like keratinocytes, fibroblasts, melanocytes, proceeds with epidermal models to determine the skin compatibility and efficacy of cosmetic or pharmaceutical formulations or actives.

Bone: Bone continuously modifies its structure to facilitate the functional needs of its mechanical environment. Strain induced flow of interstial fluid has been accepted as a primary mediator in In-vivo studies. The same has been reported through in- vitro investigations where bone cells have been observed producing important biochemical signals in response to fluid flow.

Our animal models examine the critical signaling between osteoclasts (bone resorption) and osteoblasts (bone formation). The interactions of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in a model system are helpful in understanding the mechanism of myeloma cells and the microenvironment of the bone marrow.
